Ban on Exports of Tea Leaves
According to an article in the Thai Indian News the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) announced a ban on the exports of tea leaves which will unfortunately affect the Darjeeling region.
Darjeeling tea is considered the "Champagne of Teas", and produces around 8 million kilograms of tea annually.
This is a huge concern for the locals whose only source of income is from working as a laborer in the tea gardens.
